Workshop: The Freelance Playbook
This workshop is for non-fiction writers of all genres, whether investigative journalists, personal essayists, or cultural critics. The course will cover everything from crafting compelling pitches to editors, to generating ideas when your creativity feels stalled, to managing deadlines and the business side of writing. I’ll talk you through what works and what doesn't, with a few examples from my own career of how an idea went from a cold pitch, to the reporting stage, to publication with a major publication.
Story Pitch Review
I have written for nearly every major American newspaper and magazine and almost all of those stories were cold pitches. Over more than a decade of pitching, I’ve come up with a highly successful cold pitch formula. Send me your pitch for review, and I’ll help you get on the right track.
Book Proposal Review
Selling a non-fiction book proposal is a stressful and daunting process — and it’s usually completed without any help of any kind. I’d like to change that. I’ve written two successful nonfiction book proposals that both sold at auction to Big Four publishing houses. I’ll edit your book proposal and send you an in-depth editorial memo to get you one step closer to publication.
